Multifunctional cloud solution for a leading organization in the oil and gas industry
A leading organization in the oil and gas industry, the customer has its headquarters in Mumbai, India. It operates refineries in different parts of the country. The company faced specific challenges related to the migration of their retail applications and ecosystem from a distributed platform to the Azure cloud.
The customer was experiencing the following issues:
- Migration of retail applications and ecosystem from a distributed platform to the Azure cloud.
- Shifting of workloads within India.
- Evaluation of the existing infrastructure for a smooth transition to the new subscription in Microsoft Azure.
- Development of a migration blueprint for databases to minimize downtime and disruption.
First off, we conducted a thorough assessment included:
- Evaluating the ongoing Azure environment for a seamless transition to the new subscription.
- Assessing all applications and their dependencies.
- Estimating the network infrastructure within the source subscription.
- Evaluating databases and their migration procedures.
- Assessing application deployment processes.
- Evaluating managed services and other elements in the source subscription.
To address these challenges, our team implemented the following solutions:
Rehosting SQL on Azure:
- Prepared the SQL Server Always On Availability Group Cluster and deployed SQL Server VM nodes in Azure.
- Created the SQL Server cluster in Azure and migrated the database to the existing cluster.
- Deployed a load balancer for efficient traffic balancing to SQL server nodes.
- Configured an Azure Storage account to store replicated data.
- Conducted a test migration and performed the actual migration using Azure Site Recovery.
Rehosting Linux servers on Azure:
- Evaluated the client's current Linux environment and identified the servers for migration.
- Created a parallel environment and performed redeployment.
- Established a virtual network in Azure and configured security settings.
- Replicated Linux servers to Azure using Azure Site Recovery.
- Optimized the Azure environment to enhance scalability.
Rehosting Windows servers on Azure:
- Assessed the client's on-premises environment and selected servers suitable for migration.
- Replicated on-premises servers to Azure using Azure Site Recovery.
- Configured network and IP addresses for each server as per client requirements.
- Conducted test failovers and validated server setups for migration.
- Performed the migration procedures and optimized the Azure environment.
- Configured backup and disaster recovery solutions for the migrated servers.
- Conducted a test disaster recovery drill to validate the setup.

The solutions provided by our team resulted in the following outcomes:
- The customer achieved a function-rich cloud solution, optimizing the performance of their retail business.
- Significant cost reduction in security expenses.
- Improved scalability and flexibility of the environment.
- Enhanced monitoring capabilities.

This project serves as a great example of what can be done with the power of Azure. The changes we delivered offer tangible results in terms of improved business processes, as well as giving peace of mind when it comes to the overall security of a complex IT environment.

The technology lead of Microsoft, Mr. Pradeep Kapkoti, recognized our team for completing the NeoHoS project on time.
